Emmy 2023. List of winners. Who won the awards? Which series won?

The 2023 Emmy Awards have been handed out after a delay of several months. The last season of “Succession” was appreciated on the night from Monday to Tuesday with six statuettes, including the best drama series. The creators of “The Bear” received the same number of statuettes. Here are the winners of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards.

The 75th anniversary Emmy Awards gala – or rather the Primetime Emmy Awards – was held several months late. Initially, it was supposed to take place on September 18 last year. These plans were thwarted by the ongoing strikes of Hollywood screenwriters and actors.

The host of the gala was actor Anthony Anderson, known, among others, from the series “Czarno to się”. And since it was the jubilee edition of the world’s most important television awards, the producers made sure that representatives of the cast of cult series such as “Ally McBeal”, “Grey’s Anatomy” or “The Sopranos” appeared on stage.

Emmy 2023. Unrivaled “Succession”

The list of nominees of the 75th Primetime Emmy Awards was dominated by three HBO Max productions (HBO Max is owned by Warner Bros. Discovery, the owner of TVN Warner Bros. Discovery Polska, including TVN24): “Succession” (27 nominations), “The Last of Us” ( 24 nominations) and “Biały Lotos” (23 nominations). All three titles competed against each other in the drama series categories.

As expected, the most important awards went to the creators and stars of “Succession”. The production was honored for the third time in the best drama series category. The creator of “Succession”, Jesse Armstrong, received an award for best script (for the episode “Connor’s Wedding”), and Mark Mylod won in the best director category (for the same episode). Also receiving awards were Kieran Culkin (Best Actor in a Drama Series), Sarah Snook (Best Actress in a Drama Series) and Matthew Macfadyen (Best Supporting Actor in a Drama Series).

One award was missing from the full set – in the best supporting actress in a drama series category. There was no surprise here either: for the second time in a row, the statuette went to Jennifer Coolidge, who created the legendary character in “The White Lotus”.

Emmy 2023. “The Bear” and Quinta Brunson

In the comedy series categories, almost all awards went to the creators and stars of “The Bear”. The only thing missing from the prize pool was the statuette for best actress in a comedy series, which went to Quinta Brunson for her role in the series she created: “Mission: Elementary”. Brunson is the second black person to win an Emmy in this category since 1981. Her only predecessor was Isabel Sanford, who received an award for her role in “The Jeffersons”.

Brunson is also the third and first black person to win an Emmy for a leading female role in a comedy series of her own creation (concept and script). Thus, she joined the group of Tina Fey and Phoebe Waller-Bridge. Quinta Brunson received an Emmy in the 2022 category for best writing – comedy series also for “Mission: Elementary”.

Ali Wong – the star of the miniseries “Awantura” – was awarded in the category of best actress in a miniseries, anthology or television film. Thus, Wong became the first actress of Asian origin to be recognized for her leading role in a television production.

The creators of “The Bear” had six reasons to celebrate. The series itself was appreciated in the best comedy series category, Christopher Storer received statuettes for directing and script, while Jeremy Allen White, Ayo Edebiri, Ebon Moss-Bachrach – won in the acting categories.
