The firefighting action lasted 11 days

A fire of dry grasses, reeds, broke out last Sunday afternoon at the interface between the Augustów and Moniec poviats.

According to BPN, the area of ​​firefighting activities covered about 450 hectares. 185 ha was burned. The firefighting action lasted 11 days, in which about 500 people took part.

The action was carried out in a hard -to -reach, swampy area, which in places was completely inaccessible to vehicles or pedestrian patrols, which limited the possibility of full recognition. On Wednesday at 13.30 actions were finally completed.

The District Prosecutor's Office in Augustów initiated an investigation last week about causing this fire and aims to clarify its cause. Due to the importance of the event, the investigation was supervised by the District Prosecutor's Office in Suwałki. For unintentional causing such a fire is punishable by up to 5 years in prison, and for intentional – up to 10 years.
