The film “Doppelganger. Doppelganger” directed by Jan Holoubek won an award at the 31st EnergaCamerimage International Film Festival in Toruń in the Polish film competition. The photos for this film were taken by Bartłomiej Kaczmarek. The Golden Frog for the director-cinematographer duo went to Peter Zeitlinger and Werner Herzog. Krzysztof Zanussi received the Lifetime Achievement Award.
In 2019, after 20 years, the EnergaCamerimage festival returned to Toruń, where it was held in 1993-99. Later it was moved to Łódź, and in 2010 to Bydgoszcz. The winners receive Golden Frogs for their achievements.
The awards gala takes place on Saturday. The guest of the 31st EnergaCamerimage Film Festival was Sean Penn, who will show his documentary “Superpower”. It is dedicated to recent history Ukraine based on the fate of Volodymyr Zelensky.
The event was held under the honorary patronage of the President of the Republic of Poland Andrzej Duda.

Award for the film “Doppelganger. Doppelganger”
The jury assessed that “Doppelganger. Doppelganger” directed by Jan Holoubek should be distinguished for its harmony in portraying the profession of a spy. Golden Frog for pictures Bartłomiej Kaczmarek received the award for this film.
– I am glad that I devoted myself to this profession, because I was wondering what to do a long time ago at the Camerimage festival in Łódź – said Bartłomiej Kaczmarek.
“Doppelgänger. Doppelgänger” directed by Jan Holoubek is a psychological thriller inspired by the true Hollywood story of “James Bond of the Polish People’s Republic”. This is an international production, carried out on a grand scale, with the participation of outstanding Polish actors, but also foreign stars German or France.

Krzysztof Zanussi received the Lifetime Achievement Award
Krzysztof Zanussi received the director’s award for lifetime achievement. The creator of “The Structure of a Crystal” and “The Perfect Number” said that “it is worth trying to go against the flow, not swim with the flow.”
– With many of my films I tried to swim against the current. The source is still far away, but the current is increasingly opposing. This is what it seems like when you get older – said Zanussi during the closing gala of the festival in Toruń. – I would like to tell my younger colleagues that it is worth trying to go against the flow, not swim with the flow – he added.
In recent years, Zanussi directed the films “Perfect Number” (2022) with Jan Marczewski and Andrzej Seweryn in the cast, “Ether” (2018), in which you can see, among others, Jacek Poniedziałek and Andrzej Chyra, “Foreign Body” (2014) among others with the participation of Agnieszka Grochowska and Agata Buzek, the comedy “Heart in the Hand” (2008), in which they starred, among others, Bohdan Stupka and Marek Kudelko.

The director-cinematographer duo received the award Czech Peter Zeitlinger and German Werner Herzog.
– This is a great reward. I want to thank the festival for creating excellent conditions for cinematographers and treating their work as art, said cinematographer Zeitlinger. – I want to thank the man who took me to the coldest, hottest, wettest and driest places in the world. It’s a pity that he’s not with us today, but he caught pneumonia on a plane because he’s been traveling a lot lately – he added, mentioning director Werner Herzog, who was absent in Toruń.

Peter Dinklage answered an award for an actor. – If we tried to do something in the film ourselves, we would be crazy – said the actor known, among others, from “Game of Thrones”, where he played Tyrion Lannister.
In competition long-length films Ernesto Pardo won the Golden Frog for “Echo”.
The Italian Floria Sigismondi was awarded for achievements in the field of music videos. – It all started with my father, who was an opera singer. When he raised his hands and gestured on stage, he felt alive. Passion appeared in my life when I discovered how I could use it. First there was impressionist painting. The film was the next natural step, she said.
Winner awards for the costume designer became Jenny Beavan. “Receiving this award at a festival dedicated to the art of cinematography is an amazing thing. I have always treated cinematographers as Gods. This festival is cruel in its own way, because there are so many events happening here that we cannot be present at all of them,” she said. Beavan.
