The entry of the Institute of National Remembrance – according to MEP Krzysztof Brejza – contained an entry of a “purely party and political agitation in favor of one of the presidential candidates”. The post appeared less than two hours after Karol Nawrocki was announced as PiS president. Therefore, Brejza turned to the Institute of National Remembrance for “urgent intervention”.
Karol Nawrockipresident of the Institute of National Remembrance, will be the candidate of Law and Justice in next year's presidential elections. Nawrocki is not a member of Law and Justice or any other party. To the President Institute of National Remembrance the law prohibits this.
The Institute of National Remembrance's entry after Nawrocki was announced as the PiS candidate
The PiS candidate for president was presented at the party's convention in Krakow, after 4 p.m.
Before 6 p.m., entries with photos from the convention appeared on the official IPN profile. One of them wrote: “Dr. Karol Nawrocki has been telling Poland to the world for years, serving the truth, researching history, fighting for the good name of the Republic of Poland. As the head of the only one of its kind in Europe and the largest scientific and archival institution in Poland, he has met the challenges of modern times by combining talents organizational with visionary insight and a sense of current trends. (…) The Presidential Palace is another stage of the same mission – caring for memory and fighting for the future Republic of Poland!”.
KO MEP Krzysztof Brejza responded to the publication, among others, and asked questions to the Institute of National Remembrance in connection with the “scandalous, political and campaign involvement of the Institute's official profile on the side of a candidate supported by PiS.”
Brejza published a letter to the Institute of National Remembrance on his profile on the person” and “on what basis was the IPN profile engaged for the first time in history to promote a presidential candidate.”
According to the KO MEP, the IPN entry from November 24 contained content of a “purely party and political agitation in favor of one of the presidential candidates (current president of the IPN)”. As an example of such a statement, Brejza quoted a fragment of the IPN's entry: “'Dr. Karol Nawrocki has been telling Poland to the world for years (…) The Presidential Palace is another stage of the same mission – caring for the memory and fighting for the future of the Republic of Poland.”
