An escaped lioness has been shot {dead} in South Korea after an emergency search involving greater than 100 police, firefighters and hunters.

The alarm was raised after the proprietor of a farm in southeastern Goryeong county discovered the cage empty early on Monday morning.

Dozens of campers close by had been evacuated whereas the animal, named Sasoonee, was unaccounted for.

The lioness is believed to escaped from the farm via a again door that was left open, in line with the nation’s Yonhap information company.

It was killed about an hour later after being present in bushes close by. Images launched by the hearth brigade confirmed it hiding – and its physique after it was shot.
