Estonia. British fighters intercepted a Russian Tu-214 in international airspace

The Royal Air Force of Great Britain reported that British Eurofighter Typhoon fighters based in Estonia were scrambled and then intercepted a Russian Tu-214 reconnaissance aircraft.

“Typhoons of the Royal Air Force in Estonia took to the air today to intercept a Russian Air Force reconnaissance plane that was flying in international airspace,” the statement said on Twitter on Tuesday.

It added that the Russian plane flew between Russia continental and the Königsberg region in the company of two Su-30M fighters.

As part of the NATO mission to monitor the Baltic airspace from March to August, British aircraft are stationed at the Estonian Amari base, and Lithuania – aviation units from Romania and Portugal.

The mission was created in 2014 in response to the Russian one the annexation of Crimea.
