Bulgaria, the poorest country of the European Union, is preparing to join the euro area. Meanwhile, after the victory of Karol Nawrocki in the presidential election, the prospect of joining Poland to this club is more distant than ever – writes Politico.
European Commission informed on Wednesday that Bulgaria met the required criteria and maybe join the euro area On January 1, 2026, Bulgaria will then become the 21st EU Member State in which a common currency applies.
What about the euro in Poland?
Politico noticed that “the choice of eurosceptic populist for the president of Poland” means that the country that has achieved great economic success in Europe will show even less interest in the introduction of a common currency.

Meanwhile, Poland, which – as the portal wrote – “everyone would welcome in Euroland with satisfaction”, does not seem to be interested at all. “After a slight victory of the right -wing nationalist Karol Nawrocki in the presidential election on Sunday, the prospect of joining Poland to this club in the near future seems even more distant” – he emphasized.
According to Politico, Poland did not change his mind on the adoption of the euro, even when in 2023 a pro -European government returned to power in the country Donald Tuskending with eight years of Eurosceptic United Right.
“With Nawrocki as president, this perspective is even more faint” – noted the portal. He reminded that Nawrocki directly announced that he was “against the elimination of the Polish currency.”
