The law on the Supreme Court and other courts may lead to the mobilization of funds from the KPO, but it will not lead to the end of disputes over the rule of law between Poland and the European Commission, said Marzenna Guz-Vetter, the representative of the European Commission in Poland, in “One na 1”.

President Andrzej Duda informed on Friday in a speech that he had decided to refer the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court and other courts to the Constitutional Tribunal, under the preventive control procedure. According to PIS the amendment to the law on the Supreme Court, the draft of which was submitted by the party’s deputies, is to complete a key “milestone” for the European Commission to unlock money for National Reconstruction Plan.

Marzenna Guz-Vetter, the representative of the European Commission in Poland, referred to the issue of the act and the funds from the KPO on Saturday in “One for One” on TVN24.

Representative of the European Commission: this will not lead to the end of disputes over the rule of law

She said that the “milestones” and “the assumptions under the KPO, what is at issue in the law on the Supreme Court to meet these requirements, is still the minimum program when it comes to the reform of the judiciary in Poland.” She added that “the act may lead to the mobilization of funds from the KPO, but it will not lead to the end of disputes about the rule of law between Poland and the European Commission.”

– The procedures for violation of the rule of law, which were referred by the Commission to the Court of Justice of the European Union, are still in force and Poland is paying a million euro fine every day for not complying with these recommendations – emphasized Guz-Vetter.

Asked if European Commission will continue to impose a million-dollar fine on Poland, she replied: – Of course, until Poland first of all starts paying this penalty itself and does not comply with the sentences CJEU.

– That is why I say this, because the impression is created that the law on the Supreme Court will not only activate funds from the KPO, but will settle all legal disputes between Poland and the Commission in general, and this is not the case – noted the representative of the European Commission in “One for One”.
