– I love elections. Every day we make choices, said the painter and writer Roma Ligocka in “Fakty po Faktach”. She recalled the times of the Polish People's Republic, when the choice was limited. – The fact that we have this choice is simply wonderful – she said. She also referred to the words of Jarosław Kaczyński, who said that Brussels “raises its hand to our independence.” – Small, loud men will not defeat us. They will not win against young people who will build this brave new world and vote in the elections, she assured.

The guest of “Fakty po Faktach” was the writer and painter Roma Ligocka. She is the author of, among others, the book “The Girl in the Red Coat”, in which she talks about her childhood spent in the ghetto.

Ligocka said on TVN24 that no one should be convinced to vote because “it is the most important thing we have.”

– I love elections. Every day we make a choice. We choose whether we get out of bed or go to work. Our whole life is one big choice, so how could we bend under the weight of something like that. I hear that Poles are tired of elections because they had to choose twice this year, and now they will choose for the third time. We should be happy that we have this opportunity – said the guest of “Fakty po Faktach”.

“The fact that we have a choice is wonderful”

As she said, she remembers communism and “it is tiring to live in a country where you have no choice, where they show you the government you have to worship and the system in which you have to live.” – The fact that we have this choice is simply wonderful – argued the writer.

She also addressed young people who should be aware that the European Parliament elections determine their future. – Young people know perfectly well what this is about. Young people know perfectly well that this is their life. These are trips abroad, their work, languages, roads, buses they drive, and these are hospitals where they can be treated if they break a leg. Well, what's more wonderful than elections? – she said.

Ligocka: small, loud men will not defeat us

Ligocka was also asked about the words of PiS president Jarosław Kaczyński, who said that in his opinion European Union may lead to Poles being deprived of their independence and we would become a nation directed from outside.

– We are in Europe and we have always been there. (…) Europe has always been ours, we have always been in it. Słowacki, Chopin and our other artists did not think about whether they were in Europe or whether Europe was in us. It was obvious, she said.

She called Kaczyński's anti-EU words “primitive”. – Nobody wants to take away our freedom, because why would they want it? We are equal partners in Europe and only who we elect to this parliament determines what it will look like. After all, we create it, she said.

– It's not like we're sending some people there to fight over something. There's no point in fighting over anything here, you have to build here. Here we need to build a new, wonderful, better Europe, she said.

She recalled the words Witold Gombrowicz addressed to her in a letter. – He wrote: “Ms. Roma, you have to be Polish and European at the same time.” Also a great Pole and also a great European, Joseph Conrad said that the whole world is based on a few simple rules. One of these principles is the principle of fidelity. (…) Small, loud men will not defeat us. They will not win against young people who will build this brave new world and go to vote – added the writer.
