Ewa doesn't know life outside the hospital. “She must have a wonderful family”

Ewa was abandoned by her mother immediately after birth, and her father relinquished his parental rights. The girl was born with genetic defects and requires multi-specialist care due to vision, speech, heart, and intestinal problems.

– She has undergone surgical procedures, including the digestive tract with resection of a section of the intestines. She requires parenteral nutrition, but she is also fed through the digestive tract and also fed orally – says Prof. Janusz Książyk from the Department of Pediatrics, Nutrition and Metabolic Diseases of the “Pomnik-Centrum Zdrowia Dziecka” Institute. So there is a chance that Ewa will eat normally in time.

There was no one to even name the girl, so the registry office decided that it would be Ewa. Since no one wants to adopt her, the girl has been living in a hospital since the beginning of her life, and this is starting to threaten her mental development.

– We appeal to people of good heart to take care of a child who has a promising future, has complications, still requires multi-specialist care, but can be happy – emphasizes Prof. Janusz Książyk. – We give her all our heart, we devote every moment to her. She is a wonderful child, and I say this as an experienced mother of four children – says Marta Mater, a medical caregiver from Institute “Monument-Center for Children's Health”.

However, the girl's experienced mother of four children as a medical caregiver in the hospital ward is no longer enough, nor are the nurses and doctors. Ewa must quickly exchange the hospital walls for a home, and the hospital staff for loving parents. “She is waiting for this family. She must have a wonderful family, someone who will love her unconditionally, just like she does. She has this childlike love for all of us,” says Marta Mater.

Ewa requires parenteral nutrition, which means that she must be connected to a special pump for many hours every day, which doses her with parenteral nutrition. A parent who would take on the care of this child would have to undergo hospital training on the subject.

– At every age, someone close is needed, and at the developmental age, in the period of growth, in the period of understanding the world, in better physical condition, the more she needs external stimulation – emphasizes Prof. Janusz Książyk.
