After sixth place at last year's world championships Eva Swoboda confirmed her membership in the group of the best sprinters. But it is a great pity that she was not able to compete in final 100 metres race at the Olympic Games in Paris 2024.
Swoboda was only 0.01 seconds short of qualifying for the final (she had a time of 11.08 seconds in the semi-final). A much better result – 10.99 s – Swoboda had achieved it the day before in the qualifying. But the conditions at the Stade de France were different then: it wasn't as windy and humid.
– This Friday result allowed me to think that it was good. I achieved this time at noon, and that allowed me to think that it could be even faster in the evening. However, this is a different day and a different running. I won't blame the period I have now. I simply missed one hundredth of a second. Maybe I lacked patience. I don't know what happened – Swoboda analyzed.
The athlete announced that she will try to improve her ninth place from these games in four years, at the games in Los Angeles. Then she will be 31 years old. And she believes that she will still belong to the world's top.
A lot of work. But there is a “but”
Swoboda confirmed her permanent membership in the group of the best in Paris. But she admitted that she had not fulfilled her dream. “It is hard for me to be happy,” she said after semi-finals. – I know that it's a great piece of work, that it's a cool thing. But, well, it's not enough – she added honestly.
When asked if she was going to go somewhere and see something in the days between her individual start and the 4x100m relay competition, Swoboda answered directly: “No, no, because I don't think it's a good place for girls to walk around Paris by themselves. I'll go sightseeing in the village, because I haven't been to a few places. Tomorrow my brother is coming to the village, he's here, which was a big surprise for me. So tomorrow I'll spend a family day and I'll be relaxed.”
