BANGKOK — Former UN Secretary-Basic Ban Ki-moon has referred to as for a direct finish to violence in Myanmar after a shock assembly with the army leaders of the violence-plagued Southeast Asian nation.
Ban met Monday within the Myanmar capital Naypyitaw with the chief of the army authorities, Senior Gen. Min Aung Hlaing, and different prime officers. His mission was made on behalf of a gaggle of elder statesmen that engages in peacemaking and human rights initiatives around the globe.
Ban is deputy chair of the group. which calls itself The Elders.
A press release launched Tuesday by the group quoted Ban as saying his conferences had been “exploratory.”
It mentioned Ban, who flew to Bangkok from Naypyitaw Monday evening, harassed in his talks the necessity to implement a peace plan by the 10-member Affiliation of Southeast Asian Nations and the United Nations to cease the violence between the army and the pro-democracy resistance forces following the military’s 2021 ouster of the civilian authorities led by Aung San Suu Kyi.
