One person died in a probable gas cylinder explosion in a service building in Czechowice-Dziedzice. The explosion was so strong that the ceiling partially collapsed – said on Friday evening the spokeswoman for the firefighters from Bielsko-Biała, Junior Brig. Patrycja Pokrzywa.
The explosion in a service building in Czechowice-Dziedzice occurred around 6:50 p.m.
– We learned from the owner of the facility that there was a stoker inside who operated a pellet stove. Most likely, he wanted to prepare a meal using a gas cylinder. It exploded. The man died on the spot. The high degree of charring of the body makes its identification difficult, said Patrycja Pokrzywa.
Searching the rubble
The spokeswoman said that the explosion was so strong that the ceiling above the boiler room collapsed. A specialist group of firefighters from Jastrzębie-Zdrój is searching the rubble.
– We rather rule out that there could be someone else there, but the area needs to be checked – said Pokrzywa.
The two-story building, measuring 10 by 15 m, was used as a service pavilion. Nobody lived in it. It does not have a gas installation.
The police will determine the causes of the explosion.
