Within the last dash race format of the season, Verstappen did the double forward of Norris, because the grand prix was stalled by an early crimson flag for a primary nook crash that took out Alex Albon and Kevin Magnussen.

It was a depressing race for Charles Leclerc, crashing out on the formation lap because of an engine concern, and Mercedes, seeing George Russell retire from the grand prix and Lewis Hamilton end a lowly eighth as its tempo disappeared.

The race ended with an exciting late-race battle for the ultimate podium spot, with Fernando Alonso triumphing by 0.053s over Sergio Perez.
