Foreign media note that the message appears as Facebook grapples with more scandals and more and more calls to split the concern.

“Metaverse can open up access to new creative, social and economic opportunities. Europeans will shape it from the start,” writes Facebook in a statement.

What is metaverse?

10,000 highly qualified engineers and programmers are expected to find employment for the metaverse. The company stipulates that the construction of the “metaverse” is one of its highest priorities.

Facebook says the metaverse “won’t be built overnight by one company.” The concern declares that it will cooperate with other entities for this purpose.

Facebook problems

Some critics say Facebook’s announcement is intended to distract the public following a series of scandals that have surfaced recently.

In early October, former Facebook manager Frances Haugen testified before a US Senate committee. As she said the company’s products harm children, fuel social divisions and undermine democracy. – The company’s bosses know how to make Facebook and Instagram safer, but they will not make the necessary changes, because they put their huge profits above people – she argued.

In mid-September, The Wall Street Journal revealed that a study by Facebook, published in their internal communications, showed that Instagram is harmful to millions of young people, especially teenagersin whom the use of the application contributes to the disturbance of their body image. In official communication, Facebook argued that the impact of the application on the mental health of young people is negligible.
