– The scale of abuse is shocking – assessed Michał Wawrykiewicz, a member of the European Parliament, in “Fakty po Faktach”, when asked about the subsidy from Law and Justice. PiS MP Bartłomiej Wróblewski expressed hope that the National Electoral Commission “will make a rational decision”.
On Wednesday National Electoral Commission returned to considering the financial reports of electoral committees from the parliamentary elections. The National Electoral Commission accepted without reservations the financial report from the parliamentary elections of the Left Committee, indicating irregularities, among others, by the KO, Trzecia Droga and Konfederacja committees. The session on the PiS report was adjourned until 29 August.
In the public debate, particular attention is being paid to the report of PiS, which may lose up to 75 percent of its nearly PLN 26 million subsidy due to irregularities in campaign financing.
When asked about the Law and Justice subsidy, Michał Wawrykiewicz, a member of the European Parliament from the Civic Coalition list, said in “Fakty po Faktach”: “Let's be serious. The scale of abuses that we have encountered before and during the 2023 election campaign is shocking.”
– Performing state functions should not involve using public funds to run an election campaign. This is an absolutely normal standard in democratic countries. However, here this standard has been repeatedly broken – stated the guest of “Fakty po Faktach”.
Michał Wawrykiewicz pointed out that there are dozens of examples from the 2023 election campaign when public funds were used by PiS for “political purposes”.
“There are no legal arguments”
He had a different opinion on the subsidy. PiS MP Bartholomew Wroblewskiwho expressed hope that the State Electoral Commission “will make a rational decision and accept the report”. – First of all, because there are no legal arguments for limiting this subsidy – he explained.
Wróblewski stated that the allegations in this case are of a “political nature”. Such allegations – said the guest of “Fakty po Faktach”, “could be made against politicians of the Civic Platform or PSL”.
When asked by the host of the program whether it is possible to make accusations against former opposition politicians that, for example, they organized an election campaign using public money, Wróblewski replied that “we have had such and similar situations many times.” When asked to provide examples, he spoke only generally about “ministers of Ewa Kopacz's government.”
When asked about the fate of PiS if the National Electoral Commission withdraws the subsidy, Wróblewski replied that “the judges-members of the National Electoral Commission speak in a reserved manner on this matter and indicate that the allegations made are not strong enough to lead to the rejection of the report and the limitation of the subsidy.”
– I assume that this restraint will also characterize the voting and will influence the decision of all members of the State Electoral Commission – emphasized the interlocutor of “Fakty po Faktach”.
