On Wednesday, the remains of Falcon 9 rockets flew over Poland. Some of them could fall to the ground. – Today we were unlucky or great luck that this deorbitation took place over our country – said Karol Wójcicki, Astronomy, author of the blog “With head in stars” on TVN24.
– When I woke up at 4.50, I heard strange sounds coming from behind the wall. I was convinced that he was an air conditioner that warms the house. However, it turned out that it was not him, but the acoustic effects of the rocket's remains flights – said Karol Wójcicki, Astronomy, author of the blog “With the head in the stars” on TVN24. “This rain of burning shards flew from the west, through central Poland, south -east,” he added.
Where did Falcon 9 shards come from Poland?
As Wójcicki explained, with each start, the second ranking of the rocket is deorbit, pushed into the atmosphere.
– In most cases, this happens in a controlled manner, away from human clusters, so that no one would hurt anyone. But after the start of February 1, there was a failure, control was lost over the rocket. An emergency plan was implemented, which looks like it was simply left alone for a few days. It was known that she would burn in the atmosphere somewhere in the world between the 53 north and 53 noon parallel – explained Wójcicki. – We were unlucky today or great luck that this deorbitation took place over our country. It was a spectacular, unusual spectacle – he added.
“If something like this falls off the sky, this is not a desirable situation”
According to Karol Wójcicki, an object that fell near the bailiff is a high -pressure tank belonging to Falcona 9. – It is very interesting that there are more such tanks in the second degree of Falcon 9 rocket – he said.
A spokeswoman for the Polish Space Agency Agnieszka Gapys said that it cannot be ruled out that the object from Cognition It comes from a rocket. As she emphasized, the Polsa Space Security Department will verify the remains found with Spacex.
Is the falling remains of the rocket something we should be afraid of?
– If something like this falls off the sky, such a tank, it is not a desirable situation. However, it should be remembered that the probability that such a thing will happen is absolutely minimal – emphasized the promoter of astronomy.
He added that most deorbitation takes place on the ocean. – It is safe there and even if something does not burn completely, it will fall into the water. Remember that the deorbitation process is not completely under control. The rocket enters the atmosphere that is not such a homogeneous creation. The atmosphere is sometimes denser and the speed of entering the rocket is larger – he explained.
The author of the blog “With a head in the stars” said that last year the Falcon 9 rocket started about a hundred times and similar, if not more starts, is scheduled for 2025. – At this point it is the most common space rocket, the most reliable and the cheapest. It is worth remembering that at the end of May on board in cosmos Our Polish astronaut Sławosz Uznański -Wiśniewski will recommend – he added.
In a dozen or so years there will be a deorbitation ISS
As noted by Jakub Ryzenko from the Space Research Center of the Polish Academy of Sciences, more and more rockets fly into space, which means that the number of failures can also grow. – The risk related to this already affects us. Not so long ago, air traffic was suspended for a similar reason. Remember, however, that these are not the effects of normal use of space systems, but failures. In standard procedures, the rocket track is precisely controlled – he said. At the same time, he reminded that soon we would have a procedure for entering the atmosphere of a “giant object”.
– In a dozen or so years a deorbitation of the international space station will be carried out – Ryzenko emphasized.
