Dangerous weather conditions affected much of the United States. The US National Weather Service (NWS) issued weather alerts on a regular basis for many regions in the south of the country – from Louisiana to Georgia. Southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia had the most messages. There were warnings not only of possible tornadoes, but also of hail, strong winds and even a phenomenon called a derecho, a very extensive and prolonged storm associated with a squall line or Bow Echo. They very often behave like hurricanes and tend to produce gusty winds that can cause damage over hundreds of kilometers.

Weather.com meteorologist Ari Sarsalari said they are rare at this time of year and location. He added that such weather is typical for early spring.

Another tornado also swept through eastern Texas. Cass County officials said parked vehicles were literally blown off the streets as the storm passed. However, there were no reports of casualties.

The heat from the sky

In addition to violent weather events, Texas suffers from heat. Temperatures of 37 degrees Celsius were forecast in many places on Wednesday. According to the NWS, the heat will continue in the coming days. Combined with quite high humidity, the conditions for being outside the home can be really difficult.

“This temperature can be very dangerous if you spend a long time outside or in places without proper air conditioning,” warned meteorologists. In turn, energy companies warn against the possibility of overloading power grids. As reported in the announcements, potential power outages cannot be ruled out.
