From Monday, we will publish daily announcements on the state of cybersecurity in Poland – said the Deputy Prime Minister, Minister of Digitization, Krzysztof Gawkowski. In this way, he referred to a false telegram about mobilization that appeared on the website of the Polish Press Agency.

At Friday's conference, the minister referred to the hacker attack on the Polish Press Agency, as a result of which a telegram from outside PAP with false content about an alleged military mobilization in Poland appeared on the Agency's website.

Cybersecurity messages

Gawkowski, as the government's plenipotentiary for cybersecurity, announced that starting next Monday, announcements will be published daily.

– Every day I will announce where we are and what is happening on this cyber protection map. So that citizens (…) are aware that the state covers all of Poland with a cyber shield, protects us and acts. Just like today – within minutes – he announced.

Gawkowski also thanked journalists, editorial offices and television stations for “not trying” and not further disseminating false information.

“Poland on the front line”

Gawkowski emphasized that in recent days, cyberattacks on our country have been increasing by 100% on a national scale day by day. – There will be even more of them before the European elections – he emphasized. – Poland is on the front line of the fight against cyberattacks – he added.

According to Gawkowski, this is part of a coordinated action against all EU countries before the EP elections.

The Deputy Prime Minister announced that on the night from Thursday to Friday, “attacks on critical infrastructure in the local government sector” were also thwarted. He noted that they were “focused primarily on the software and hardware part, i.e. devices that support systems in local government administration and subordinate units.”

After Friday's cyber attack on the Polish Press Agency, Gawkowski interrupted his field visits and returned to Warsaw, where – as he said – the first coordination meetings were held.

He added that there will be a coordination meeting on Friday “within the cybersecurity teams responsible for the security of critical infrastructure.”

He also noted that he talked to his boss several times during the day Ministry of Interior and Administration and coordinator of special services Tomasz Siemoniak.

– We also have the first information that indicates where these danger fields appeared. They are related to malware. I think that in the coming hours and days we will jointly inform about the status of cybersecurity, he said.

– Everything indicates that there was a cyber attack that was intended to cause panic and introduce disinformation – said the Deputy Prime Minister. He added that the attack was marked with the “Russian flag”.
