Household mourns Georgia officer killed on first day with native police drive: ‘It is unimaginable’

A Georgia police officer was fatally shot on his first day with the native police division.

Officer Dylan Harrison, 26, was shot {dead} exterior the police station Saturday morning in Alamo, about 124 miles west of Savannah. 

Harrison’s brother, David Harrison, joined “Fox & Friends” Monday alongside his spouse Kayla, explaining that his brother was shot after a visitors cease close to the police station.

“He made contact with a suspect at a fuel station that occurred to be throughout from the police station. The suspect didn’t adjust to him … and ended up being tased. A few hours glided by, my brother was on the brink of do paperwork on the police station and was shot in retaliation for that arrest,” he stated.

It was Harrison’s first shift working part-time with the Alamo Police Division. He was already a full-time Oconee County Drug Taskforce Agent since 2018.

The suspect, Damien “Luke” Anthony Ferguson, 43, fled the scene and was arrested Sunday at his house.

Harrison was the primary Alamo officer killed within the line of responsibility. He leaves behind a spouse and a six-month-old child.

“She’s struggling. It’s simply unimaginable,” Kayla Harrison advised host Steve Doocy. 

David stated that his brother “devoted his life to serving the general public.” David added that whereas he was hanging out along with his pals as a teen, his brother volunteered on the native hearth division at age 16.

“And he would sit up at night time ready for his radio to go off so he may reply to the decision of an accident. He left the home at 3:00 within the morning to go be the primary one on scene to a wreck on the interstate. Simply the final two years he’s devoted his life to serving the general public, and he did it so selflessly,” he stated.

Dylan labored the 2 police jobs to save cash to purchase his household a home. Dylan’s household tried to speak him into changing into an electrician as a result of harmful nature of policing, his brother stated.

Dylan was initially enrolled on the technical school in his hometown, however David stated he knew it was not what his brother wished to do.

“Our uncle’s an electrician, so he type of had a plan, however all of us knew deep down that’s not what he wished to do. He truly advised my dad only a few weeks in the past once they had been speaking about it. He stated, ‘daddy, that is what I used to be put right here to do.’ He knew that. He would have by no means been joyful as an electrician,” he added.

Dylan’s family members began a GoFundMe to assist assist his spouse and little one.
