The driver most likely lost control of the vehicle and skidded, investigators found. The car hit a pedestrian walking on the side of the road. The woman with numerous injuries was taken to hospital, where she died. A prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Sosnowiec was behind the wheel of the car.

The fatal accident occurred on November 28 in the town of Sieniczno in the Olkusz district.

“The driver of a Kia Rio passenger car (…) lost control of the vehicle, skidded and hit a pedestrian moving on the roadside. The victim suffered numerous injuries, including a brain injury, and was transported to hospital, where she died,” says the Krakow district prosecutor's office.

About two weeks after the incident, Gazeta Krakowska reported that the driver of the Kia was a prosecutor from the District Prosecutor's Office in Olkusz. She also described the place where the accident occurred: “Dorota had to walk about 70 meters along the side of the busy DK 94 (…) to reach the sidewalk. She was going to take her daughter to school. There is a wide, almost two-meter shoulder, and the road is straight.” .

“Combined with the fact that the inspection of the scene of the incident and preliminary activities in the case were conducted by the District Prosecutor's Office in Olkusz, it was intended to make readers believe that the activities carried out in this case were unreliable,” comments the Krakow prosecutor's office, which took over the proceedings. And he confirms that the car was actually driven by a prosecutor – but not from Olkusz, but from Sosnowiec.

The article also contains unconfirmed information that the police who arrived at the scene of the accident heard from the driver that she was “looking for her phone.” According to journalists, the prosecutor's office did not answer their question about how the driver explained the incident.

In turn, the prosecutor's office states that the driver has not been interviewed yet because “only a comprehensive investigation will allow her to determine her procedural role in the incident and to question her.” However, the only eyewitness to the event was interviewed and the opinion of the Department and Department of Forensic Medicine of the Jagiellonian University Medical College was sought.

Next step: charges

The driver was breathalyzed at the scene of the accident and her blood was taken for testing.

“The woman involved in the incident had her driving license confiscated, and the vehicle was seized in order to conduct an examination of its technical condition,” the prosecutor's office says. He announces the appointment of an expert in the field of course reconstruction road accidents after collecting evidence.

“The next step in the case will be to take action to issue a decision to present charges,” we read in the statement.
