While the FC Barcelona men's team was already preparing for the evening (Sunday, December 15, 9:00 p.m.) clash with Leganes, their female counterparts entered the fray. Women's Barcelona, unlike men's, played away, not against Leganes, but against Valencia. The Catalans are still undefeated in the current league season, and therefore, they are probably leading in the table with an advantage of eight points over Real Madrid (although they also have played one more match, and even two if counting the one against Valencia).
Valencia no chance against Barcelona? Pajor was going to take care of that
Women's Valencia is the league's red light. The last team in the table, the only one still winless (two draws and eight defeats). There could only be one favorite. Especially since Barcelona arrived fueled by the triumph against Hammarby IF (3-0) in the Champions League.
The first team of the Catalans included, of course, Ewa Pajor. The Pole scored a double against the aforementioned Hammarby and showed that although she has not been scoring as much in recent weeks as at the beginning of the season (one goal in the last six league matches), she is still the world's leading striker. The match against Valencia itself seemed to be an excellent opportunity to increase the goal count again.
Catalan suffering in Valencia. Pajor was not impressed
However, the league's outsiders did not intend to sell their skin cheaply. Even though Barcelona's advantage was huge in the first half, they had as much as 82% of possession of the ball, but they were unable to take advantage of it. Even in terms of shots on target, it looked miserable, because in 45 minutes the Catalans only made two shots, and they were ineffective. The 0-0 score at half-time was a sensation, but it was difficult to assume that Valencia's defense would withstand such dominance. And she actually couldn't stand it.
In the 54th minute, Barcelona received a penalty kick. However, it was not performed by Ewa Pajor, but by Fridolina Rolfo. The Swede did not waste the opportunity and gave her team the lead. Although the possession advantage continued to be overwhelming, the Catalans failed to score any more goals in what was a very disappointing match. Ewa Pajor, who did not stand out in any way, was also not impressed. The Pole remains the leader of the scorer's classification with ten goals, but she is only one goal ahead of the Nigerian Edna Imade from Granada.
