This Sunday, August 15, we celebrate the feast of the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary, which is a statutory holiday. Due to the fact that this year’s holiday falls on Sunday, are we entitled to an additional day off at a different time? We explain.
A holiday on August 15 on Sunday – do I have an additional day off?
On August 15, we celebrate the Polish Army Day and the Assumption of the Blessed Virgin Mary. This year it will be Sunday. According to the regulations, employees are not entitled to an additional day off for a holiday falling on Sunday.
It should be remembered that on this day, the regulations on the prohibition of trading on Sundays and public holidays apply. This means that on that day only establishments with their owners behind the counter can be open. Moreover, the act provides for a catalog of 31 exemptions. The prohibition does not apply, among others in post offices, pastry shops, ice cream parlors, liquid fuel stations, flower shops, newspaper shops or coffee shops.

The following public holidays are November 1 (Monday), when it is All Saints’ Day, and November 11 (Thursday) – Independence Day. We will also not go to work on December 25 and 26 (Saturday and Sunday) when we celebrate Christmas.
