Parts of Italy experienced very strong gusts and heavy rainfall this week. There was a storm on the sea, it blew so much that the ferries had a problem with normal running.
Some regions of Italy struggled with very difficult weather on Friday. There was a gusty wind blowing, which contributed to the formation of very high waves on the sea. The consequences of the storm were felt by the passengers of one of the ferries, which set off on a cruise from Ponza in the Lazio region.
The Reuters agency showed videos of this dangerous course. One video shows passengers sitting with their feet up to avoid getting too wet from the water entering the deck.
Storms and downpours
It’s been a really tough week for Italy. Around 740 interventions were reported in the neighboring region of Campania in two days due to strong winds and heavy rainfall, it said on Thursday.
Downpours and gales did not spare Venice either. The famous Saint Mark’s Square was flooded on Wednesday. There had been a high tide the day before, but the water level was too low to activate the Mose dam system and protect the city from the phenomenon known as acqua alta.
