A meme was sent from the WhatsApp account of the Finnish economy minister mocking the country’s prime minister. The Criminal Police Bureau launched an investigation into the matter. Previously, parliamentary services conducted their own investigation into the matter – no data breach was found at that time.
The Criminal Police Office suspects that the business smartphone of the Minister of Economy Mika Lintila has been hacked. From his WhatsApp account, a meme mocking the prime minister was supposed to be sent to a large group of politicians Sanny Marin and one of the Social Democrat deputies.
The case is being investigated as a hacking attack against the minister of economy, the police said in a statement on Wednesday (KRP).
The minister posted a meme mocking the country’s prime minister
The possible hacking of the account of the popular messenger of Minister Lintila from the Center party, the main coalition partner of the Social Democrats, Prime Minister Marin, was reported in early February, when a meme, previously allegedly sent by a politician, was leaked to the media.
It presented a photo of the leader of the Social Democrats from the election campaign presenting the new program of her party. The reworked election slogans referred to loud “party scandal” Marin from last summer, when social media leaked e.g. recordings from night parties with her participation.
The politician initially claimed that his account had been “taken over” and assured that he had not sent the meme from his work phone. Previously, parliamentary services conducted their own investigation into the matter – no data breach was found at that time.
