The mayor of the city of Chios Yiannis Malafis, told Ekathimerini that there are three separate fire fronts, each of them is located at a considerable distance. This forces the fire brigade to conduct action in various locations.
– The situation is very difficult and the wind is extremely strong. Helicopters work, but in difficult conditions – said Malafis, adding that the evacuated residents were transported to the town hall on the island.
