Croatia is consumed by fires. Fire breaks out in places popular with tourists. Poles resting in this country tell our reporters about their experiences. – There was a fire-fighting plane, which landed close to us, took water from the sea – said Mr. Adam, who is on the island of Vir, in the program “Dzień na świat” on TVN24 BiS. – We had a balcony strewn with ashes and a remnant of burnt grass. The fire must have been very close – said Zbigniew, who stayed in Vodice, in an interview with the editorial office of Kontakt 24, who on Friday decided to return to the country.
– We’re on vacation here. At the moment we are taking advantage of the fact that the weather is beautiful, but there is a lot of dry greenery on the occasion of this beautiful weather – said Mr. Adam, who is on the Croatian island of Vir, on Friday in the program “Dzień na świat” on TVN24 BiS. It is about 30 kilometers northeast of Zadar.
On Monday, a fire broke out on the island, the firefighters managed to put it out on the same day. – We were witnesses of him in a fairly close range. (…) A fire-fighting plane appeared, which landed close to us, took water from the sea, tried to extinguish it, and he did it successfully. Later, the local residents did not inform us that we would have to evacuate somewhere – reported the Polish tourist.
He reminded that you have to try to prevent fires on a daily basis, for example not to leave garbage behind. – We’ve had a drink, let’s take this bottle with us. Let us not make it contribute to the fire, because later it is too late, it takes work and effort of many people to help – he said. “If we want to be safe, let’s behave ourselves safely,” he appealed.
“It burned many times, but not that much”
As Mr. Adam reported, there are currently no evacuation orders in Croatia due to fires. Some vacationers, however, decide to leave. Among them is Reporter 24, Mr. Zbigniew, who sent to Kontakt 24 materials documenting Croatian fires in the town of Vodice, between Zadar and Split. After he had to throw ash out of the car, he decided to return to Poland on Friday.
As he said the day before in an interview with the editorial office of Kontakt 24, fires often occur in a place where he likes to go on vacation, but he has never seen such a large one as on Thursday.
– It burned many times, but not that much. Airplanes put out the fire. At 4 am there was nothing to breathe, we had to close the windows. We had a balcony covered in ash and burnt grass. The fire must have been very close now, he said.
Fires in Europe
The risk of fires in the south and west of Europe is increased by an intense heat wave. Firefighters are also fighting fires in France, Spain and Portugal.
