There are fires in Greece. A group of 143 Polish firefighters who left Wrocław on Saturday will help to extinguish them. – The conditions are very difficult in Greece. This is a real challenge for our firefighters – said Junior Brigadier Daniel Mucha.
Greece has been fighting massive fires for several days. Help will be provided by Polish firefighters who left Wrocław on Saturday afternoon after briefing and checking the equipment. 143 firefighters of the State Fire Service and 46 vehicles went to Greece.

The group included firefighters from the Mazowieckie, Łódzkie and Małopolskie voivodships. – Officers will travel to the Peloponnese region, where they will take part in the mission lasting until August 23. The Polish module of the State Fire Service should reach Greece on Monday. We are waiting for a detailed confirmation of where we will be located, because the situation there is dynamic, said Chief Brigadier Adam Konieczny, deputy chief commander of the State Fire Service.

He added that “operational efficiency was achieved very quickly” and the firefighters prepared for departure six hours after the minister’s decision.
Konieczny emphasized that the mission undertaken by Polish firefighters is very difficult. – Due to the fact that it is a forest fire, we want to use the forces and resources of the Greater Poland Voivodeship, because their experience is invaluable here – he added.

Junior Brigadier Daniel Mucha from the Wrocław fire brigade also emphasized that “very difficult conditions prevail in Greece”. – High temperatures, difficult terrain, very dynamic situation. A real challenge for our firefighters. We believe it, and our previous actions have shown that we are able to cope with such difficult tasks – he said.

In Greece, firefighters fight fire at 154 locations across the country. Fires rage in Euboea, northeast of Athens, and in many places in the southern Peloponnese region. Thousands of inhabitants were evacuated and two died. The fire reached a distance of 20 kilometers from Athens. The heat wave has turned Greece into a powder keg, Prime Minister Kyriakos Micotakis assessed on Saturday.
