Firlej, Lubartów poviat. A drunk driver caused a collision and drove off with the bumper torn off

He had over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in his system, he was reversing into another car, and then drove off. For a drunk 73-year-old who caused a collision in Firlej near Lubartów (Lubelskie Voivodeship), the problem was not even a detached rear bumper dragged along the asphalt.

On Friday around 2 p.m., police officers from Kock received an anonymous report about a driver who was most likely driving under the influence of alcohol. The uniforms went to the village of Firlej, where – according to the reporting party – there was a drunk driver.

It wasn’t hard to figure out which car it was. While the officers were on their way, the driver of the Toyota hit another vehicle while backing up and then drove off towards Kock.

“Even the bumper detached from the vehicle didn’t bother him. The man was immediately stopped by the district officers. The sobriety test showed over 1.5 per mille of alcohol in the body” – said staff sergeant Jagoda Stanicka from the Lubartów police in a message.

The officers confiscated the 73-year-old driver’s license and the registration document of the damaged car. The car was towed to the police parking lot.

“The 73-year-old will be held responsible for the crime of driving under the influence of alcohol. He will also not avoid responsibility for causing a road accident. According to the criminal code, this is punishable by up to 2 years in prison, a ban on driving for several years and a high fine” – noted Stanicka .
