Agata Kornhauser-Duda and Olena Zelenska talked on Tuesday about the implementation of joint projects for the benefit of the people of Ukraine. The first ladies of Poland and Ukraine discussed, among other things, the course of the series of trainings started last year and carried out by the Polish Medical Air Rescue, the Eastern Burn Treatment and Reconstructive Surgery Center in Łęczna and the Medical Simulation Center of the Medical University of Lublin.

The online meeting was also attended by the Ukrainian ambassador to Poland, Wasyl Zwarycz, and the head of the National Security Bureau, Jacek Siewiera. The communiqué of the Chancellery of the President indicated that Agata Kornhauser-Duda i Olena Zelenska initiated a project of exchange of experiences between Polish and Ukrainian medics.

As part of the cooperation, a total of eighty-nine Ukrainian doctors and representatives of medical staff will be trained in Poland in the field of medical evacuation by air and comprehensive medical care for patients with burns.

Ukrainian medics trained in Poland

According to the president’s office, Kornhauser-Duda discussed the course of a series of trainings started last year and carried out by the Polish Medical Air Rescue, the Eastern Burn Treatment and Reconstructive Surgery Center in Łęczna and the Medical Simulation Center of the Medical University of Lublin.

– Training is coming to an end. I hope that the experience gained will help specialists from Ukraine take even better care of the life and health of patients – said the first lady, quoted in the message.

As indicated, the president’s wife had the opportunity to meet the course participants several times to discuss the scope of the needs of the medical staff in Ukraine, both in the area of ​​improving competences and equipping the facilities with medical equipment necessary to work in the occupied territories.

Olena Zelenska – as quoted by the KPRP – thanked for the cooperation and expressed her joy that it brings a real effect. – Our doctors and feldshers emphasize the high level of preparation of the courses as well as the reliability and openness of Polish colleagues – she said.

Discussion on the organization of courses in the field of rehabilitation

Referring to Ukraine’s efforts to standardize the medical service, the first lady of Ukraine mentioned that “Polish-Ukrainian cooperation of medical groups gives the opportunity to develop joint work protocols, which is very important on Ukraine’s path to the EU”.

The KPRP informed that the first ladies discussed the details of organizing further courses, this time dedicated to specialists in the field of rehabilitation, combat stress and psychotraumatology. They also declared their willingness to cooperate in the exchange of experience between Volunteer Fire Brigades.

“As noted by Minister Siewiera, this is one of the most active circles in Poland, whose involvement is conducive to saving human lives, but also to civic activation and maintaining community in smaller towns. The first lady of Ukraine stated that the process of forming similar structures has begun in Ukraine, which have been operating in our country for over a hundred years, which is why Polish experience in this field is particularly valuable.

Talks on the situation of Ukrainian orphans

During the conversation, the wives of the presidents discussed the situation of Ukrainian orphans staying in Poland. “Agata Kornhauser-Duda drew attention to the system differences in both countries and asked her interlocutor for advocacy in adapting the standards of care for orphans to Polish and EU standards, while ensuring the support of the European Commission and the UNICEF Crisis Management Office in Poland in this area” – reports the Chancellery of the President of the Republic of Poland.

Olena Zelenska announced that Ukraine had managed to recover several hundred children abducted deep into Russia, but the situation was still “critical and unacceptable”.

“The ladies agreed that solving the problem requires international community action. The first lady of Ukraine thanked for the initiative aimed at finding the children and punishing those responsible. The project is to be implemented under the leadership of the prime minister Mateusz Morawiecki and the President of the Commission, Ursula von der Leyen, with the support of the UN agencies,” the Chancellery of the President indicated.
