The first snow this fall fell on Sunday. The weather surprised tourists in the Tatra Mountains on Kasprowy Wierch. In the afternoon, the thermometers there showed a value below zero.
It has suddenly cooled down in Poland. Still on Tuesday locally the temperature was close to scorchingand just a few days later, forecasts showed that it would be less in some places than 10 degrees at the warmest moment of the day.
On Sunday, the air temperature at the top of Kasprowy Wierch dropped to almost -3 degrees Celsius. Due to stronger wind gusts, it felt even colder. What’s more – the first snow this autumn appeared.
“The winter season can be considered open”
For many tourists, the rainfall was a big surprise.
– Unfortunately, winter surprised us as tourists this time, but it’s nice to welcome winter this year. […] The winter season can be considered open, said Mr. Jerzy z Inowrocław in an interview with a TVN24 reporter.
– The children are cold and it’s really a surprise. [Jest – przyp. red.] very nice, we like it very much. We are glad we could come. This is such a surprise. First time we are in Zakopane and we could see it for the first time – said Mrs. Natalia, from Ukraine.
Can the snow stick?
The cooling, which is a consequence of the presence of the Arctic air mass, will continue for the next few days. Even frosts are possible at night. Later it will get warmer again – there will be places where over 20 degrees Celsius is possible. This means that fans of winter – even the one only in the mountains – will have to wait a little longer.
