1. Campaign weekend. Conventions, election slogans, surprises on the lists

Two large conventions were held over the weekend – the Third Way, which says “Enough arguing, move on!” and New Left with the election slogan “My heart is on the left”, as well as a presentation of candidates for the Law and Justice Sejm. The Civic Coalition announced the success of the surveillance operation electionsand the leaders of the Confederation Sławomir Mentzen and Krzysztof Bosak they continued their tour around Poland.

2. “Decision Time: DEBATE”

Issues of pensions, women’s and LGBT rights, settlement of eight years of rule PiS, the first draft laws in the new Sejm, as well as protection of State Treasury companies from becoming party loot – this was among other things discussed by representatives of the electoral committees of the Civic Coalition, New Left, Trzecia Droga and Konfederacja in the “Time of Decisions: DEBATA” program on TVN24. Representatives of Law and Justice refused to participate.

3. There will be a new Minister of Defense of Ukraine

Ukrainian president Volodymyr Zelensky announced on Sunday evening that he had decided to change the position of defense minister. Oleksiy Reznikov is to be replaced by Rustem Umerov, the current head of the State Property Fund Ukraine.

4. The school year begins

Primary and secondary school students return to classes after the holidays. On Friday in Warsaw teachers protested in front of the Ministry of Education and Science. School supplies are more expensive than a year ago – this was the answer given by over 93 percent of those surveyed by Payback Polska, which conducted a survey among Poles regarding purchases related to the start of the school year.

5. Iga Świątek lost in the US Open

Iga Świątek said goodbye to the US Open. The Pole’s opponent in the 4th round was the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, currently the 21st racket in the world. The Latvian won 3:6, 6:3, 6:1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Before the match, one thing was clear: 26-year-old Ostapenko is a nightmare for Świątek. The Polish woman, four years younger than the Latvian, has lost her three matches so far. After the latter, in February last year in Dubai, Świątek’s impressive series of 37 wins began. She previously lost to Ostapenko in 2019 in Birmingham and in 2021 in Indian Wells.
