5. Iga Świątek lost in the US Open

Iga Świątek said goodbye to the US Open. The Pole’s opponent in the 4th round was the Latvian Jelena Ostapenko, currently the 21st racket in the world. The Latvian won 3:6, 6:3, 6:1 and advanced to the quarterfinals of the tournament. Before the match, one thing was clear: 26-year-old Ostapenko is a nightmare for Świątek. The Polish woman, four years younger than the Latvian, has lost her three matches so far. After the latter, in February last year in Dubai, Świątek’s impressive series of 37 wins began. She previously lost to Ostapenko in 2019 in Birmingham and in 2021 in Indian Wells.
