During his visit to Davos, President Andrzej Duda spoke to foreign interlocutors about the situation in Poland. “Polityka” 2023 passports distributed. MEP Krzysztof Brejza revealed how much money commentators appearing on TVP received. Here are five things to know on January 17.
1. Generous payments for TVP commentators
Commentators in journalistic and information programs on TVP during the government PIS could receive a one-time remuneration of PLN 500 – according to information presented by MEP Krzysztof Brejza.
“In the case of lump-sum contracts, the highest ceiling of remuneration specified in the contract, the subject of which was the author’s commentary on journalistic broadcasts, was PLN 298,890 gross (the contract was to be valid throughout 2023),” it added.
2. Former director of TAI with a job in a bank
Jarosław Olechowski, former director of the Television Information Agency (TAI), found a job at Bank Pekao – Wirtualna Polska reported. According to the portal, Olechowski is an advisor to vice-president Piotr Zborowski, who is considered a human being Jacek Sasin.
At the end of December last year, Dariusz Joński, an MP from the Civic Coalition, published data on the earnings of former heads of the Television Information Agency. The record holders were Michał Adamczyk and Jarosław Olechowski, who collected approximately PLN 1.5 million each in 2023.
3. “Polityka” 2023 passports distributed
This year, for the first time, eight, not seven, prizes were awarded. The rapper Łona received an award in a new category awarded by readers.
The winners also included director Paweł Maślona, painter Marta Nadolle, and composer and singer Hania Rani. The Creator of Culture special award went to the writer and playwright Józef Hen.
4. The Sejm passed the budget-related act for 2024
The Parliament passed the budget-related act for 2024, which includes, among other things, a 30% raise for teachers and an additional PLN 3 billion for oncology and child psychology. The act also assumes the freezing of so-called chimney stoves.
In favor of adopting the Act on special solutions for the implementation of the Budget Act for 2024, i.e. the so-called budget-related act, 408 MPs voted, 15 MPs were against and no one abstained from voting. Now the bill will go to the Senate for consideration.
5. Duda in Davos about the situation in Poland
President Andrzej Duda takes part in the 54th World Economic Forum in Davos. In a conversation with journalists, he shared what he says when someone asks him about the situation in the country. – Unfortunately, today we are dealing with a situation in which the new government has already committed a number of violations of the constitution over recent weeks – Duda said.
He said that thanks to the “dedication and determination” of Kamiński and Wąsik, “the fight against corruption has begun decisively” and that those detained were because “they were realizing their beliefs.” Duda claims that Kamiński and Wąsik are political prisoners, and his act of clemency from 2015 was “in accordance with all constitutional canons.”
