Journalists from “Czarno na Białym” TVN24 obtained documents that shed new light on the case of Witold K. Prime Minister Donald Tusk announced a breakthrough in the exhumation of Polish victims of the UPA. US President-elect Donald Trump was sentenced. Deputy Minister Aleksandra Gajewska announced that the 800 plus program will be continued in the coming years. Here are five things to know on Saturday, January 11.
1. New findings in the case of Witold K.
Witold K., who has corruption charges and close ties to the Belarusian oligarch, was received at least 50 times by high officials, including ministers of the current and previous government – according to documents obtained by reporters of TVN24's “Black and White”. 2. A breakthrough in the exhumation of Polish victims of the UPA
Prime minister Donald Tusk announced that “a decision has been made on the first exhumations of Polish victims” of the UPA. “I would like to thank the ministers of culture of Poland and Ukraine for good cooperation. We are waiting for further decisions,” he added. Head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs Ukraine Andriy Sybiha, in turn, stated that any agreement in relations between Ukraine and Poland is a “blow” to Russia.
3. Donald Trump convicted
President-electt Donald Trump was convicted of committing 34 crimes in a case involving payment for the silence of porn actress Stormy Daniels. However, Judge Juan Merchan also ordered the convict's unconditional release from punishment. When announcing the verdict, he admitted that the decision was one of the most difficult that any judge could face and stated that the verdict he issued was dictated by the “extraordinary legal protection of the office of the president.”
As a result, Trump was officially convicted in the first instance, but did not receive a prison sentence, probation or fine.
4. What next with 800 plus payments? There is an announcement
On Friday, the Sejm held a debate on the report of the Council of Ministers on the implementation of the 500 plus (currently 800 plus) act in 2023. Deputy Minister of Family Aleksandra Gajewska announced that in 2023 the state budget expenditures will be: 500 plus program amounted to over PLN 41.7 billion. – The 800 plus program is already a permanent element of the budgets of Polish families. It will be continued in the coming years on the same terms as currently, Gajewska announced.
5. Psychiatry and Oncology Center for Children and Adolescents open
It's official on Friday The Psychiatry and Oncology Center for Children and Adolescents was opened at the Children's Health Center in Warsaw. It is the most modern building of this type in Europe, and the first patients will be admitted in February. On six thousand square meters there will be inpatient units, detoxification units, day clinics and therapy rooms. The new building will also be used to treat children with cancer. The facility was established on the initiative of the TVN Foundation and the Children's Health Center with the support of the Ministry of Health.
