5 US service members have been killed on a routine coaching mission after the navy plane carrying them suffered a “mishap” and crashed into the ocean.
The navy personnel had been participating in a routine air refuelling mission within the japanese Mediterranean Sea on Friday as a part of their coaching, the US defence division confirmed on Sunday.
The tragedy was reported by the USA European Command (USEUCO), which handles American navy operations in Europe and elements of the Center East.
It mentioned in a press release: “All 5 of the service members on board the plane had been killed.”
Search and rescue groups had been deployed instantly after the incident, together with close by US navy plane and ships.
An investigation into the crash is now below approach.
