The flood wave on the Odra is passing through Brzeg Dolny and Ścinawa in the Lower Silesian Voivodeship. The water level in the latter city is expected to peak on the night from Friday to Saturday and will exceed the alarm level by almost three meters – according to the IMGW forecast. The Lubuskie and Zachodniopomorskie Voivodeships are preparing for the wave.
The flood wave reached The shore Dolny on Friday early in the morning. The Odra River level at the local hydrological station at 9 p.m. was 950 centimeters and had a stable trend – The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management reported. This situation is expected to continue for the next few hours.
The river exceeds the alarm level (630 cm) by more than three meters. However, the water level is lower than during the flood in 1997, when it reached 1070 cm. Then the embankments were breached, there were two meters of water in the city and it flooded the Old Town. This time the water did not enter the city.
On Friday evening, a flood wave also passed through Ścinawa (Lower Silesian Voivodeship). At 9 p.m. the water level reached 624 cm, while the alarm level was 400 cm.
The peak is expected to occur around 2 a.m. from Friday to Saturday. At that time, the river level should reach a maximum of 665 cm – according to the forecast IMWM.
The flood wave on the Odra has reached its peak Wroclaw. The maximum water level was 644 cm on Thursday, and the first drops were observed on Friday morning. At 9 p.m. that day, the river reached 617 cm, with no changes in the trend. The alarm level at the Trestno station, where the Odra flows into the capital of Lower Silesia, is 450 cm.
Further flow of the wave
On Friday evening, the water level in the Odra exceeds the alarm level at 35 stations. More provinces are preparing for the coming flood wave.
In Kostrzyn nad Odrą (Lubuskie Province) a flood wave is expected in a few days. – All the services involved are preparing. Soldiers and firefighters are raising the embankments so that the water does not spill out of the riverbed at the peak – informed Commissioner Grzegorz Jaroszewicz from the Municipal Police Headquarters in Gorzow Wielkopolski. Before 3 p.m. on Friday, the water level was 330 cm. The warning level there was 420 cm, and the alarm level was 470 cm.
In the West Pomeranian Voivodeship, a flood wave is expected on September 24, i.e. Tuesday. The governor ordered an inventory of the embankments. In Piasek (Gryfino district), the assembly of flood barriers has begun, and preparations have also been made for the assembly of barriers in Chlewice (Myślibórz district).
