The filling level of the Racibórz Dolny reservoir, which intercepted and “cut” the flood wave on the Oder, is decreasing. On Wednesday at 10 a.m. it held about 134 million cubic meters of water, or 72 percent of its capacity – Polish Waters reported. On Tuesday it was almost 148 million cubic meters, or 80 percent.

According to Wody Polskie, the Racibórz Dolny reservoir is “operating in accordance with the water management instructions”. The water level in the reservoir is decreasing on its own. On Wednesday at 10 a.m. there were about 134 million cubic meters of water, or about 72 percent of capacity.

On Tuesday, the Racibórz Dolny reservoir was accumulating 147.9 million cubic meters of water, which was about 80 percent of its capacity. Since then, as the hydrometeorological situation has stabilized, the amount of water accumulated in it has been decreasing.

Situation in other reservoirs

At night, there was a local leak from the embankment located near the Racibórz Dolny reservoir. Bukow polder, but according to assurances from Polish Waters, the situation is under control and the work carried out there is coming to an end. The water level in the Buków polder is gradually decreasing. During the flood, the polder took in over 50 million cubic meters of water, and currently there are about 30 million cubic meters in it.

The situation at the dam in Jarnołtówek is also improving.where the water level is decreasing. The situation is stabilizing on Włodzienin and Krzanowice reservoirsfrom which water slowly drains away.

“The Żelazna polder is also ready for operation. The facility will start operating when the flood wave passes through the city of Opole. Currently, the Odra River in this location maintains the regime of the riverbed and inter-embankment,” informed Wody Polskie.

The Racibórz Dolny reservoir takes over excess water from the Odra

The Racibórz Dolny reservoir with a capacity of 185 million cubic meters, or – for comparison – 185 National Stadiums in Warsaw filled to the roof – began to be filled on Sunday morning to take over the excess water flowing in from the Oder. The construction of the dry reservoir in Racibórz was completed at the turn of May and June 2020. It covers 26 square kilometers. The length of the reservoir dams is over 20 kilometers. The cost of the investment co-financed by the European Union, the World Bank, the Council of Europe Development Bank and the state budget amounted to about two billion zlotys.

The Racibórz Dolny reservoir is co-operated with the Buków polder, located above it and commissioned in 2002. As part of this investment, 14.5 kilometres of embankments constituting the side barriers of the polder, two structures enabling control of the polder's operation and a partition embankment were constructed.
