The Mietków reservoir, owned by Wody Polskie, has been hit by an unexpected, sudden release of water from a reservoir managed by a hydroelectric power plant owned by Tauron, said Joanna Kopczyńska, president of the State Water Management Authority Wody Polskie, during a meeting of the crisis team in Wrocław. She added that “this water is going” to the Marszowice housing estate in Wrocław. Prime Minister Donald Tusk assessed the information as “shocking”.
On Tuesday morning, at a meeting of the crisis team in Wrocław in connection with the flood situation, with the participation of, among others, the Prime Minister Donald TuskPresident of the State Water Management Authority Wody Polskie, Joanna Kopczyńska, commented on the threat to the Marszowice estate in Wrocław.
She indicated that there was a sudden, previously unforeseen discharge of water into the Mietków reservoir, owned by Wody Polskie, from the reservoir administered by the Lubachów hydroelectric power plant, owned by Tauron.
– We, as Polish Waters, were not informed about this discharge. And this water is going to Marszowice. We took action yesterday evening. Over 100 soldiers went to put bags on the embankments. (…) Putting bags is difficult. It is not known whether an evacuation will be necessary – said Kopczyńska.

Tusk: the information is shocking
– The information we received about the water discharge and the lack of cooperation and collaboration is shocking – commented Tusk and announced that the matter would be clarified.
Kopczyńska appealed for the army to patrol the Mietków reservoir and check what was happening there. As she explained, the reservoir has been accumulating water for a long time and seepages may occur. She added that the outflow from the Mietków reservoir had been reduced to protect Nysa.

The President of Polish Waters also reported that on the night from Monday to Tuesday, the flood control reservoir in Racibórz overflowed. She said that the provincial crisis centre had been notified. – Thanks to the efficient action, the involvement of services and the army, the leak of the geotextile was stabilised and secured. The army patrolled the entire embankment of the reservoir. At the moment, the reservoir is safely holding up water, is working normally and there is no threat – Kopczyńska noted. She added that the failure in Ostrava has no impact on the reservoir in Racibórz.
