The flood situation in Lewin Brzeski in the Opole region is very difficult. Opole Voivode Monika Jurek informed that due to the overflow of water over the embankment in Kantorowice, the city “is practically 90 percent under water”, and the water is up to two meters deep. The evacuation of residents is taking place there. The situation was reported on the spot by “Fakty” TVN reporter Wojciech Bojanowski.
At Tuesday's meeting of the flood crisis team with the participation of the Prime Minister Donald Tusk Opole Voivode Monika Jurek said that due to water overflowing the embankment in Kantorowice, “practically 90 percent of Lewin Brzeski's area was under water”; the water is up to two meters deep. She added that the town has about 5,700 inhabitants and is located below the mouth of the Nysa Kłodzka River into the Oder.
Evacuation involving approximately 300 firefighters
Jurek reported that 304 firefighters are taking part in the evacuation, sailing from house to house on boats. By 5 p.m. – she reported – 380 people had been evacuated, finding shelter in primary schools in Brzeg and Łosiów. Before 8 p.m. she reported that the evacuation using a helicopter had been completed, because no one had reported the need to evacuate from the roof, currently heavy equipment and boats are being used.
As reported by TVN's “Fakty” reporter Wojciech Bojanowski, who was in the city, the evacuation is still ongoing. – There is an exceptionally large amount of water, it even reaches up to the shoulders – he reported. He described that mainly fire boats are sailing on the flooded streets, and military amphibious vehicles, i.e. wheeled or tracked vehicles that can operate both on land and in water, are also involved in the evacuation.
