Flooded basements and garages. Effects of the storm in Warsaw

On Sunday afternoon, a storm passed through Warsaw, accompanied by heavy rain. In some parts of the capital, residents experience flooded streets. Firefighters, in turn, received reports of water entering the buildings.

– We have about 20 applications at the moment. These are mainly flooded basements and underground garages. There are no injuries – told us just before 4 p.m. senior captain Wojciech Kapczyński from the Municipal Headquarters of the State Fire Service in Warsaw. He noted, however, that the final balance may differ. New reports are coming in, and in many places the water is receding by the time firefighters arrive.

Warsaw residents inform us on Kontakt 24 about flooding of a street in Bielany or difficulties on the viaduct near the Młynów metro station.

The Government Security Center's alert about storms, heavy rainfall, strong winds and possible flooding is valid on Sunday in most of the country. In the belt from part of the Warmian-Masurian Voivodeship through parts of the Pomeranian Voivodeship, Kuyavian-Pomeranian Voivodeship, Greater Poland Voivodeship to the northern edge of the Lower Silesian and Opole Voivodeships and one district of the Łódź Voivodeship.

“Find a safe shelter during a storm,” warns the Government Security Center.

The Institute of Meteorology and Water Management also issued first and second warnings against storms for almost the entire country, except for parts of the Pomeranian, West Pomeranian, Greater Poland and Lubusz voivodeships.
