Flooded Dąbrowa Górnicza. “Unprecedented rainfall”

On Thursday, by 9 p.m., firefighters received 720 calls regarding the removal of the effects of strong winds and flooding, informed the spokesman for the Chief Commander, Senior Brigadier Karol Kierzkowski. The largest number of calls was recorded in the Silesian province – 418, the Opole province – 103 and the Warmian-Masurian province – 45.

The most difficult situation was in Dąbrowa Górnicza, where firefighters recorded 309 calls. As a result of the downpours, many streets and tunnels were flooded.

As the mayor of Dąbrowa Górnicza, Marcin Bazylak, wrote on social media, the storm “brought rainfall never before seen in our city. Many floodwaters have formed, which impede traffic or make it completely impossible to pass through.”

“We are monitoring the situation and trying to restore normal functioning of the city as soon as possible,” he said at around 7 p.m.

In Silesia, in Zawiercie County, two scout camps were evacuated as a precaution: a total of 65 scouts and 14 staff members. No one was injured. After 6 p.m., scouts and staff evacuated as a precaution from the tented camp in Podzamcze. The decision to evacuate was made by the camp commandant.

Participants of the second camp, from Podlesice, were transported to a sports hall in Kroczyce. The group had a camp bus, so the evacuation was largely carried out using it, but firefighters from the nearest unit also provided two of their teams.

In a large area of ​​the country, these regulations apply warnings from the Institute of Meteorology and Water Management about storms. For part of the Małopolska province. the level of warnings has been raised to the highest. In some regions it will be dangerous until Friday morning.
