Downpours on the night from Monday to Tuesday caused the Służewiecki Stream to flood in Warsaw, putting dozens of homes at risk. Rafał Trzaskowski was asked at a press briefing on Tuesday whether he had been elected for the last six years, i.e. the presidentsome actions were taken to unblock the Służewiecki Stream.
This is the responsibility of Wody Polskie. This is the question of what Wody Polskie has actually done over the last six years under the PiS government.
– said Trzaskowski, quoted by Onet.
The Służewiecki stream has flooded. Rafał Trzaskowski and Polish Waters are shifting blame
– At the moment, we do not intend to shift responsibility, but simply act and work in such a way that such a situation is as inconvenient as possible for the residents. And I declare this on my part. However, the real problem with this Służewiecki Stream is that it is not a place within the city's remit and here cooperation is necessary with all those who manage such watercourses, including Polish Waters – said the mayor of Warsaw.
Water In response to Onet's questions, Polskie confirmed that the Służewiecki Stream is indeed in the hands of the institution. However, it was emphasized that the spatial development plan should take into account flood areas, which was not done in this case.
The Służewiecki Stream does not have a flood embankment, only bank slopes. (…) The above-mentioned plan should not allow for the possibility of building in such close proximity to the bank slope, as is the case with the Służewiecki Stream
– informed Natalia Rybus from the Communication and Water Education Team of PGW Wody Polskie. Wody Polskie also reported that in June, maintenance was carried out on the Służewiecki Stream, consisting of mechanical and manual mowing of lichens from the slopes, roadside and bottom of the stream along with raking, removal of bushes from the slopes and coastal strip, cleaning of the culvert in the area of al. Rzeczypospolitej and collection of municipal waste and cut lichens along with removal and disposal. The second maintenance is planned for September.
