Local media reported that flood waves washed away bridges in rural areas, completely cutting off several towns. At least one person has died in the floods, according to Cuba’s authorities.

“Something like this hasn’t happened in 10 years,” a Camaguey resident told Reuters, where some streets have turned into rivers and residents have fled to the rooftops. – At first we were calm because the river was canalized and the water flowed quickly, but today we are very worried.

In the city of Jiguani in the eastern part of the island, some residents had to be evacuated, and many households do not have access to electricity and running water. Flood victims tried to save as many items as possible from flooded houses.

According to the meteorological service, the violent weather will remain over Cuba until at least Sunday.
