Florida police rescued people trapped by floodwaters. On Thursday, two strong storms passed over the city of Tallahassee, bringing locally over 250 liters of rain per square meter. The rainfall damaged roads, houses and cars.

Two storms with heavy rain hit North Florida on Thursday. According to data from the local center of the National Weather Service (NWS), record rainfall was recorded in Leon County – in the city of Tallahassee located there, even 266 liters of rain fell per square meter.

Road washed away, houses damaged

The downpours caused flooding of streets, houses and cars. Tallahassee police posted video of the overnight rescue on social media. Police officers rescued three people trapped in rain-flooded areas – the clip shows residents wading through rising, swollen water under the watchful eye of officers.

According to local media, at least one road was washed away by the flood wave, and many streets were blocked by fallen trees. Police officers and firefighters warned residents against trying to drive on flooded roads – as they explained, many of them still had a lot of flowing water that could sweep away a car. The building of one of the city's high schools was also seriously damaged.
