The flood wave culminates across western Germany. At least one person died in the floods. Residents of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate are anxiously awaiting the development of the situation, where further downpours are expected in the coming days.

Germany are struggling with the effects of downpours, which came over the western part of the country last week. The most rain fell in the states of Saarland and Rhineland-Palatinate. Overflowing rivers overflowed, causing flooding and numerous landslides.

On Sunday evening, the authorities of the city of Saarbruecken, where serious flooding occurred, reported the death of one person. A 67-year-old woman died from injuries suffered on Friday. A resident of Saarbruecken fell into the water while evacuating from a flooded house.

Local media reported that the situation was particularly difficult in Rhineland-Palatinate on Sunday and Monday. The culmination of the flood wave passes through the Moselle River and its tributaries. It rained heavily in the city of Kirn, causing floods and landslides – traffic in one district was completely blocked. It was also dangerous in the town of Auw an der Kyll near Trier, where water entered houses on Sunday evening.

– It's unimaginable. People who have lived here for 80 years have never experienced anything like this, said one of the residents of Kirn.

Clean-up works have started in the flood-affected regions, but the German Meteorological Service (DWD) announced that this was not the end of the downpours. Rain is expected to fall again in southwestern Germany from Tuesday. The highest rainfall amounts are expected in Saarland, Rhineland-Palatinate and Baden-Würtenberg.
