Floods in Turkey. The wave carried away tourists at the campsite

Türkiye is struggling with floods that hit the north-west of the country. Near the town of Kirklareli, water entered the camping area, causing the death of at least two people. The flood also brought destruction to the European part of Istanbul.

On the Mediterranean Sea Mediterranean cyclone Daniel is circulating, bringing with it downpours and floods. The situation is difficult in Greece and Bulgaria, and on Tuesday the violent weather also affected Turkey.

A tragedy while relaxing

On Tuesday, flood waters entered a campsite near the town of Kirklareli, near the border with Bulgaria. According to Turkish Interior Minister Ali Yerlikaya, there were 12 tourists there at the time of the disaster. Six people were saved, but the services also found two fatalities. The search for four missing people is ongoing.

Floods also inundated Istanbul. In the European-side districts of Basaksehir and Kucukcekmece, streets turned into rivers and water rushed into metro stations. On Tuesday, up to 125 liters of water per square meter could fall in the city. Two people died as a result of the rainfall, and the body of another victim was discovered in the Sisli district, popular among tourists. At least 12 Istanbul residents were injured.
