Iga Świątek (1st WTA) played her last match almost a month ago. This happened on September 5 in the quarterfinals of the US Open, where she lost 2:6, 4:6 to American Jessica Pegula (3rd WTA). From that moment on, Świątek did not take part in the WTA 500 tournaments in Seoul and WTA 1000 in Beijing, and in messages sent to the media she explained that she had personal matters. – My physical condition has not yet returned to normal after the US Open – these are Świątek's words before the tournament in Seoul.
– We have to guess a bit about what is behind Iga's decisions. However, we can assume that she is tired. I have no doubt about that. She has communicated this quite often before. I would ask if they wouldn't be more worried if Iga went to such tournaments and lost in the first or second round? Would fans' concerns be less then? – said Adam Romer, editor-in-chief of the “Tenisklub” magazine, in an interview with Dominik Senkowski from Sport.pl.
Dawid Celt said in an interview with “Przegląd Sportowy Onet” that Świątek could have caught the virus and become ill. But then he withdrew these words. – I thought there was information about her illness somewhere. But when I looked at the messages later, they were talking about personal matters. From my perspective, it may also be that she is tired. She has every right to do so, the last three years have taken a toll on her – explained the coach and commentator tennis.
A specific relationship between Świątek and Daria Abramowicz? “She is a mentor, a guardian angel”
In recent days, the website wpolityce.pl published an article about Świątek, her family life, and the situation in the staff. Świątek is said to have a specific relationship with psychologist Daria Abramowicz. “Daria is today not only her psychologist, but also a mentor, guardian angel and friend. Well-informed people say that sometimes she also takes on a training role, which makes the topic of a possible change of coach non-existent, because no serious trainer would agree to such a change. arrangement” – we could read in the article.
“Politics sent Abramowicz questions: how does Iga cope with the pressure, are the recent severe defeats and a kind of paralysis on the court the result of a mental block, is it justified to believe that, while taking care of Iga's well-being, the psychologist isolates her from her surroundings, is it possible in the tennis community to friendships and can this possible deficit be compensated for by relationships within the team? – adds Marcin Piątek, author of the mentioned text.
From the above-mentioned publication, we could also learn about Świątek's relationship with his mother Dorota. Her parents are divorced, and there is definitely more talk about her father, Tomasz. “Światek's parents divorced when the tennis player was still a teenager. Mother Igi was supposed to disappear from the lives of her two daughters, who from that moment stayed with their father. The mother's contact with Iga was even said to have ended” – we wrote on Sport.pl. – I always congratulate my daughter on her titles, usually by e-mail. However, contact is very limited – said Iga's mother in February this year in an interview with the WP SportoweFakty portal.
Furjan comments on the article regarding Świątek. “There are a few inaccuracies”
Now Marek Furjan, commentator and expert, has decided to react to this publication tennis during transmission live on the YouTube channel “Break Point”. – I will say very generally that there are several threads that are not talked about and that appeared for the first time in the public space. There are also a few inaccuracies, e.g. there is a suggestion that no serious trainer would allow himself to do something like that. For me, this suggests that Tomek Wiktorowski is a frivolous coach – he said.
– I don't entirely agree with this. There are also several interesting threads that shed new light on certain topics. Everything without a comment from someone inside stays between us. I hope that there will be an opportunity to confront some of these offensive threads with Iga – added Furjan, who comments matches tennis on Eurosport.
Currently, Świątek is registered for the WTA 1000 tournament in Wuhan, which will take place on October 7-13.
