“The biggest personnel mistake” by Lech Kaczyński

Zygmunt K. was considered a protégé Lech Kaczyński while he was the Minister of Justice. He became an appellate prosecutor in 2001, and Lech Kaczyński appreciated him for supervising the case of the so-called right-wing surveillance. However, he quickly changed his mind, calling Zygmunt K. “the biggest personnel mistake”. Zygmunt K. resigned in April 2004.

In the same year, K. also became a media hero when he was allegedly attacked by unknown perpetrators who allegedly stole his notebook containing notes on the investigation into the murder of Papala, as well as the proceedings regarding the attempted sale of the Orlen company. It was just after the former head of Orlen, Andrzej Modrzejewski, was detained at the request of the prosecutor’s office.

The problems of Zygmunt K. and his daughter are not their first. In 2016, they were both accused by investigators from Białystok of forging documents of a company belonging to the former prosecutor’s daughter and brother.
