Bożena K., a former deputy of the Civic Platform, who, according to the investigators, was to make a false declaration of property and act to the detriment of the Chancellery of the Sejm, assured in an interview with the Polish Press Agency that she had not committed any crime, and the CBA proceedings in her case and the prosecutor’s accusations were motivated politically.
The District Prosecutor’s Office in Ostrołęka put on Thursday Bożena K. allegations of misappropriation of funds and submitting false asset declarations. The proceedings concern submitting false financial statements in 2015-18 (these are declarations made by her as a deputy to the Polish Parliament and as the director of the Suwałki Cultural Center). The former parliamentarian is facing up to 10 years in prison.
Bożena K .: The CBA received all the explanations from me
Bożena K. assured in an interview with the Polish Press Agency that she did not commit any crime and that the case was politically motivated.
She reported that she received the first phone call from the Central Anticorruption Bureau shortly after the parliamentary elections in October 2019, when she was unable to re-enter the Sejm. – I learned that I have an audit of my asset declarations from the last five years. I think it is not a coincidence that during the eight years I was an MP, the CBA was not interested in my asset declarations, but took care of them when I lost my immunity – said the former MP.
She ensured that in the course of the proceedings, the CBA had received all explanations from her. – Later, the interrogations of the employees of my deputies’ office began. At the time, I did not know what they were related to, as I had not been notified that office expenses were being checked – said the former MP.
Bożena K .: I read it as a political attack
– I read this matter as a political attack and I dare say that this is a continuation of the previously announced “denunciation competitions” against me – added the former MP.
She argued that when she was arrested by the CBA and transferred to the prosecutor’s office, she did not know the case. – I have not been summoned in this case as a witness before. I was only questioned as a suspect, when the charges were formulated – said Bożena K.
Prosecutor’s office: a former MP appropriated the money
A spokeswoman for the prosecutor’s office in Ostrołęka, Elżbiety Łukasiewicz, stated that, according to the findings of the proceedings, K. concealed in her asset declarations the possession of a sculpture worth PLN 54 thousand and the fact that she had liabilities exceeding PLN 10,000. In addition, as it was established, the former deputy allegedly misappropriated the funds entrusted to her, intended for the activities of the deputy’s office, including employee salaries, in the total amount of approximately PLN 320 thousand.
Bożena K. said that she had not yet had the opportunity to read the case files and that she was surprised by some of the details mentioned by the prosecutor’s office. – The Chancellery of the Sejm accepted the settlement from me for two years of my office on the basis of documents, payrolls, ZUS certificates that I am not overdue with any contributions, also certificates from the Tax Office. I do not know what the problem is, we must read the case files together with my lawyer – the former MP emphasized.
She added that the sculpture, which the investigators accused her of concealing, was her husband’s investment.
The prosecutor’s office issued a property surety in the amount of PLN 100 thousand to Kamińska. Proceedings against her have been conducted since December 2020 as notified by the CBA.
Irregularities in the Podlasie police
Bożena K. in the last term of the Sejm became famous, among other things, with numerous notifications to the prosecutor’s office and the Supreme Audit Office regarding alleged irregularities in the Podlasie police. In November 2018, she asked the then head of the Ministry of Interior and Administration, Joachim Brudziński, to explain the media reports that police officers from Podlasie were guarding the house of the deputy minister of internal affairs and administration, Jarosław Zieliński, 24 hours a day.
A few days later, the commander of the provincial police in Białystok, Chief Inspector Daniel Kołnierowicz announced a “competition for the best anonymous” on Kamińska on one of the radio stations. Later, he explained that it was a reaction to numerous – in his opinion – lies and slander formulated by the then deputy.
