Forum in Karpacz. Letter of intent regarding the recruitment by Budimex of laid-off employees of PKP Cargo

PKP Cargo in restructuring and Budimex signed a letter of intent during the XXIII Economic Forum in Karpacz regarding the company's employment of employees of the rail carrier. It will enable the recruitment of up to 100 people in the professional groups in which Budimex conducts recruitment – it was added.

“The signed Letter of Intent enables Budimex to recruit PKP CARGO employees for positions including diesel traction vehicle drivers, rolling stock mechanics, equipment operators, electrical fitters (at various levels of responsibility), and electricians,” both companies announced on Thursday. PKP Cargo is undergoing a group layoff process that is to cover up to 30 percent of the carrier's staff, or up to 4,142 people.

Budimex will take over the employees

“The new employment support program for PKP CARGO SA employees will be implemented in the coming weeks and will cover up to 100 people in the professional groups in which Budimex SA is conducting recruitment,” it was announced.

As PKP Cargo emphasized, the agreement with Budimex is the 12th letter of intent of this type. In total, under these agreements, it will be possible to employ over 2,000 dismissed employees of the rail carrier in other companies in various sectors of the economy. All of these programs are either already being implemented or will be implemented in the coming weeks – the carrier emphasized. PKP Cargo has signed letters of this type with, among others, Koleje Mazowieckie, Koleje Wielkopolskie, PGE Energetyka Kolejowa, Wars, Warsaw MZA, Polregio, PKP Intercity, PKP PLK.

“Budimex is a trusted company with over 50 years of experience and a rich base of both construction and railway equipment. The offer to gain unique experience for our employees as part of the signed letter of intent allows us to believe that both the future employer and the newly employed on behalf of PKP Cargo will meet in their expected benefits from the mutually accepted offers,” said the acting president of PKP Cargo Marcin Wojewódka, quoted in the company's press release.

As Maciej Olek, a member of the Budimex board, assessed, the letter is a confirmation of the strategy of development of railway construction in the company. He recalled that Budimex invests in people, and has also invested over PLN 200 million in machines and rolling stock. “The potential that we have gained thanks to these investments allows us to count on a significant participation in the implementation of further railway projects,” Olek said.
